

Rufino V. Tagatac passed away on May 13, 2025 in Wailuku, Maui, Hawai‘i. He was born in the Philippines on August 13, 1942.
After moving to Lana'i, he worked at Hotel Lana'i and (what used to be called) the Lodge at Koele. After retiring early from the Lodge at Koele, he worked at the Philippine National Bank (PNB) Remittance Center Inc. until his death.
He liked to fish (when he was younger), and took care of his yard, plants, and garden. He also liked to play a Filipino card game called tongit with the family. One thing he liked to do when playing tongit is take a long time when it was his turn and then when he would play a card, he would laugh real loud.
Rufino is survived by his wife Maria Tagatac; his children, Mary Ann Miranda (daughter), Diosdado Miranda III (son-in-law), Antonio Ildefonso Jr. (son), Luana Koanui (daughter-in-law), and Ryan Tagatac (son); his grandchildren, Chasity Lei Lopez, Daniel Jordan Miranda, and Kiai Koanui.

Rufino will forever be missed.
2-Day Funeral Services for Rufino will be held on Friday, July 11th, 2025 at Lanai Union Hall, Public Visitation is at 6:00 p.m.; Service at 7:00 p.m.; Service will continue on Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary Catholic Church, Lanai, Public Visitation is at 9:00 a.m.; Service at 11:00 a.m.; Burial to follow at Lanai Community Cemetery.
