Russell Noboru Kagehiro, 55, passed away on July 28th, 2026, in Wailuku, Maui. He was born on December 20th, 1970, to Edwin and Helen Kagehiro, the only son, and the baby of the family, known to his sisters as “cutie boy.”
He enjoyed fishing and diving the waters of Maui and Oahu as much as hanging out and having a beer (or more) with friends. When not by the ocean, you could find him fixing everything and anything, tinkering particularly with anything with an engine, or watching sports, especially the L.A. Dodgers.
Russell was a long-time employee at Island Honda’s Service Department before moving on to Bacon Universal, and finally to T.J. Gomes Trucking.
He loved spending time with his family and friends and being involved in all his daughters’ activities, from band to air rifle to art projects. His daughters were his greatest joy.
He is survived by his wife, Soon Young Kagehiro; daughters, Cailin and Lia Kagehiro; sisters, Diane (Maurice) Vargas and Susie Kagehiro; nephews, Zachary Vargas (Caroline Foley) and Jacob Vargas. Predeceased by his parents, Edwin and Helen Kagehiro.
Services will be held at Makawao Hongwanji Mission Buddhist Temple on Saturday, August 8th, 2026; Family Visitation at 10:00 a.m., Service at 11:00 a.m. Lunch to follow.
Russell will forever be missed but he remains in our hearts.
