Born August 21, 1931, in Waldorf, MD, she was the daughter of the late Amanda Viola (Pickeral) Hamilton and Leroy Hamilton of Pomfret. Edna is predeceased by eight brothers: Alton, Preston, Edward, George, Levy, Dick, Charma, and Herman and three sisters: Hazel, Emma, and Bertha.
Edna is survived by her husband of 61 years, Joseph William Johnson, Sr. of Bel Alton, MD, daughter Mary Elaine Sagman and her husband Scott of West Jefferson, NC, son Joseph William Johnson, Jr., daughter Nancy Lee Bowling and her husband Eddie of Charlotte Hall, MD, daughter Kathryn Ann Johnson of White Plains, MD, son James Harold Johnson and his wife Dianna of Ruther Glen, VA, daughter Bridgett Langley and her wife Cindy of Pomfret, and sister Bea Pickle. Edna had 6 grandchildren: Jimi Thompson IV, Tai Conner, Casey Conner, Jennifer (Bowling) Fenton, Amy Bowling, and Cory Johnson, and 2 great-grandchildren: James H Thompson V and Charlotte Fenton, to be born in May 2014.
One of the highlights in Edna’s life was her involvement in the club Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS). She was a member for 37 years and served as President of TOPS for many years. Edna loved family get-togethers, preparing for yard sales, and making holiday crafts.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2014, from 2-4:00pm and 6-8:00pm at Huntt Funeral Home, 3035 Old Washington Road, Waldorf, MD. A church service and funeral will be held at 12 Noon on Monday, January 27, 2014, at Christ Church Durham Parish, 8700 Ironsides Road, Nanjemoy, MD.
Pallbearers will be Bridgett Langley, Jimi Thompson, Tai Conner, Casey Conner, Corey Johnson and Jay Fenton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Hospice of Charles County, 2505 Davis Road, Waldorf, MD 20603.
