On Thursday, May 13th, 2021, Edvins Andris Kristapsons, of Hughesville passed away at the age of 74 after a long illness. Ed was born January 9th, 1947 in Germany. He is preceded in death by his mother, Minna, and his father, Kristaps Kristapsons, of Riga, Latvia. His family emigrated from Germany to Arbutus, Maryland when he was a small child. He attended military school at the Miller School of Albemarle in Charlottesville, Virginia, and joined the Navy after high school graduation. He served for four years during Vietnam and received an honorable discharge. Ed then returned to Arbutus, Maryland where he obtained his Associates Degree at Catonsville Community College and completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management at University of Maryland. After college he entered the field of property insurance adjusting which allowed him the opportunity to travel the states and its territories extensively. When he retired in 2010, he boasted about having seen forty-eight of the fifty continental states.
Ed was happiest “at the farm” where he found peace surrounded by the outdoors and the lake view. He enjoyed watching the local wildlife, shooting, and fishing. He was an active member of The American Legion and The Moose Club. Ed will be remembered by all that knew him for his goofy sense of humor that was well balanced with his matter of fact honesty and his sharp memory.
He is survived by his two daughters, Jennifer Paris, of Waldorf, MD, and Carrie Staiger, of Honolulu, HI, and four granddaughters, Rachele Paris, Sarah Paris, Mary Paris, and Sierra Staiger. Additionally, he is survived by his ex-wife Ann Kristapsons, sisters Ilga and Aina, nieces Ligita and Zinda, nephews Edward and Victor, and their children.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 19th, 2021 at Hunt Funeral Home on Old Washington Road in Waldorf, Maryland at 12:00pm with visitation starting at 11:00am. As he loved flowers, they are welcome in his memory. The family also welcomes donations in his name to the Moose Lodge, American Legion, and The American Lung Association.
