Edward "Ed" D. Bridge

December 11, 1946January 7, 2020

On Tuesday, January 7, Edward “Ed” Bridge passed away peacefully at home at the age of 73. Ed was born on December 11, 1946 in Worcester, MA to the late Marguerite (Samson) and late George H. Bridge, Jr. Graduating in 1965 from Gardner (MA) High School, he enlisted in the Army, and did two tours of duty in Vietnam as a heavy equipment engineer, which included working on tanks and large trucks. After his stint in the Army, he worked for many local road construction companies over 45 years to put his expertise in heavy equipment to work.

Ed loved going to the beach; and could name most car makes and models, especially from the 1940s through 1970’s. He could watch MotorTrend Channel all day and comment on what car they would be fixing up before it was even revealed. He helped both his daughter and sons rebuild cars. He was a fan of the Washington Redskins, whom he wholeheartedly supported as an adopted Washingtonian until their epic collapse under Daniel Snyder, where he turned back to his New England roots to support the Patriots. He settled in Maryland in 1969 with his wife Betty, who preceded him to heaven in 1993.

He leaves behind his wife Deborah of LaPlata MD; daughter and son-in-law Robyn and Milosz Walczak of New Brunswick NJ; son and daughter-in-law Ryan and Cynthia Bridge of Silver Spring MD; Daughters Beth Eichmann of Titusville FL; Jessica Gay of Eagle Rock FL; Robert Russell of LaPlata MD; brother Paul Bridge of Palmetto FL; nephew Kevin Pugliese of Waldorf MD; niece Kristi Bridge of Plaistow, NH; Aaron Bridge of Gardner, MA; and grandsons Lucas and Cole of Silver Spring MD.

A visitation will be held from 11am to 12:30pm at Huntt Funeral Home in Waldorf MD, followed by a Memorial service at 12:30pm. Burial will be held with honor guard service at the Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the American Legion Post 82 in LaPlata, MD in Ed’s memory.
