Eileen George was born September 13, 1928, in Montreal, Quebec, to Robert and Winifred Werner. She was the sister of two older twin brothers and one younger brother. Her older brother, Peter, lives in upstate New York. She is survived by her two children, Kevin George (Allison) and Brian George (Jennifer); and four grandchildren, Tirzah, Keziah, Acacia, and Jordan George.
Eileen enjoyed speaking French and having dual citizenship since her father was an American citizen. During her teen years, she began corresponding with her brother’s fellow soldier, Ernest George, whom she married in 1948. She worked as a secretary and honed her short hand and typing skills, when Ernest after his military service went to college and earned his master's degree.
After several years, they moved to Southern California, where both their sons were born. Once Ernest was established as a school psychologist and their children had grown, Eileen pursued a certificate at her local community college to be a medical transcriptionist. She then worked for a home health nursing agency in Palm Desert California for over a decade.
Eileen enjoyed knitting, sewing, scrapbooking, and crossword puzzles. In their early retirement years, she and Ernest enjoyed dancing and traveling to such places as Russia, China, Egypt, and Japan. Once they had grandchildren, they traveled to Waldorf, Maryland, twice a year for two weeks at a time where Eileen delighted her grandkids by spending hours reading aloud to them.
In 2021, after living in their Palm Desert home for nearly sixty years, Ernest and Eileen moved fifteen minutes from their grandchildren in Maryland. They celebrated their 74th anniversary before Ernest’s death in 2022.
Eileen LOVED attending any soccer, volleyball, or basketball game that her grandchildren played in, and eating out afterwards. Anyone whose path crossed hers, knew to ask if “she” had won the most recent game! If a game was canceled even four years after she’d moved from the desert, she would exclaim with utter disappointment, “Do they know that I’ve come from California for it?!!” She also grabbed the attention of quite a few when they heard that she still sent e-mails almost daily and played Solitaire on the computer at age 96.
