John “Sandy” Sandefur, age 77, loving son, husband, and father, died on May 25th. He was born on June 23rd 1947 to John William Sandefur, Sr. and Vivian Louise Glass of Glade Spring, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife Charleen Ann Sandefur, nee McCormick, and was survived by his daughter Tabatha Carle (Rick Carle), his son Chad Sandefur, and his sisters Cathy Trent (Dean Trent), Mary Lynn Preston (Gray Preston), and Ann Frye (Ron Frye).
Sandy served his country in the Marines and later as a Captain with D.C. Corrections and as a Sheriff with P.G. Sheriff's department.
Sandy was a good husband, a good father, and a good neighbor. He was always the first in line to help someone out. He was fond of the sun, but not always sunscreen. He enjoyed his food and drink and a good day of fishing, but sometimes the dock evaded him. He cared deeply about his yard, garden, and plants, but he was not always as careful with the neighbor’s fence. Sandy was an avid fan of the Commanders, the Capitals, and the Nationals and at least two out of three of those brought him joy.
Never to miss a bargain, Sandy was perhaps happiest at a yard sale or flea market. He lived by the motto: if it’s good to have one of an item, how about four or five. Unrelated, details on the estate sale will be forthcoming. He is best remembered cruising around in the Mercedes, top down, country music blaring–maybe even in his lane. Sandy will also be sorely missed by the many of the local casinos.
His grandchildren, Kerstin, Galadriel, and Xavier, who perhaps might remember him most for his vivid interpretation of a twirl of spaghetti or his unlimited supply of Little Debbie snacks, brought him happiness and purpose.
Sandy brought joy everywhere he went…or at least good joke and a story.
Memorial services will be held at Huntt’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 3rd 2025. A viewing will be held from 11am-1pm, with a brief service after.
