

Marie was born in New London, Connecticut on March 21, 1924. She passed away peacefully on August 2, 2015 surrounded by her family. She is survived by Donald Halter, her husband of 61 years; three children, Donna Knott (Donald), Kevin Halter (Sandy), and Eric Halter (Mary Beth); seven grandchildren, Renee, CJ, Nathan, Emily, Justin, Austin, and Kristin; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and three brothers, Joe, Hank, and Larry Morth. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna Morth, and her sister JoAnn Auwood.
Marie proudly served in the US Navy during WWII (1944-1946) as a telegraph operator. Later in life, after raising her children, Marie devoted herself to helping Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Over many years, she served as Commander, Chaplain, and Transportation Coordinator for the DAV, Chapter 36, in Waldorf, MD. She was also instrumental in the establishment of the Maryland Veterans Memorial Museum in Newburg, MD. Well into her years, Marie remained active and enjoyed gardening, bowling with her Senior Bowling League, and race walking in the Senior Olympics.
Visitation to be held at the Huntt Funeral Home 3035 Old Washington Road, Waldorf, MD Monday August 10, 2015 from 4 to 7pm. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday August 11, 2015 at 11:30am at the Huntt Funeral Home with burial to follow at Maryland Veteran’s Cemetery Cheltenham, Maryland.
