Surrounded by his loved ones, Morris “Marty” Edward McDowell, 75 of Waldorf, Maryland, passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2021. His family is grateful for the time they had with him over the years despite his battle with cancer and associated health issues. It is important to note that he fought with dignity and bravery.
Born on March 16, 1946 to David and Shirley McDowell in Burlington, New Jersey he is the second born of ten children. Siblings include David, Larry, Beatrice, Gene, Jeanette, Constance, Daniel, Raymond, and Terri.
In 1964, Marty enlisted in the United States Army where he completed his basic training at Fort Hood. After completing two tours in the Vietnam War, he was stationed in Germany and Fort Belvoir. At the end of his military career, he received a degree in engineering. Throughout his career he utilized his degree to work on cars and recreational vehicles.
Throughout his adult life, Marty enjoyed fishing, bowling, camping, working on cars, and doting on his grandchildren. He was a youth bowling coach at the Bowl America in Alexandria, VA for several years. Marty’s grandchildren will fondly remember that he was there to watch all of their favorite television shows, even if he didn’t like them. That he would be there for morning school pickups and afternoon drop-offs, share his favorite snacks, swim, tie shoes, his love of 80’s shows, and anything that was Chuck Norris related and old western movies.
Marty is survived by his daughter Christina Calacan, her husband John and their five children, Christian, Selah, Aniah, Nevaeh, and John Hernandez; his son Kenneth McDowell, his wife Amy and their children, Mackenzie McDowell and Amber Lowry.
