Olga Mercado

The Wife of Librado Mercado, the mother of Jorge Luis Mercado, Johnny Mercado and Robert Mercado. She was born on January 6, 1934 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Cruz Quinones and Eugenia Bayron. Olga passed quietly into eternal rest during the early morning hours on Friday, November 4, 2016. She graduated from Eugenio Maria de Hostos High School, Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. She got married to her loving husband Librado Mercado in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. After they got married, they moved to New York and two years later they came to Washington D.C. where she started to build her professional career and her family. She retired from The Pan-American Health Organization in Washington DC. She was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Fort Washington, Maryland and a former President of the Ladies Auxiliaries, American Legion, Post 69. For many years, she spent her life making substantial contributions to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the disable veterans any many other organizations in need. She exhibited benevolent feelings, especially toward those in need or in disfavor. She was very hospitable, generous… and to some extend an open-handed person who always put others before herself. Olga was a devoted grandmother and great grandmother...the best "Abuelita" as the grandchildren and great grandchildren used to call her. A person loved by so many people, especially her family and friends. She loved traveling, going shopping and for sure...cooking and having company at home, especially her family and friends.

Family and friends are welcomed for a memorial gathering on Thursday, November 17, 2016 from 10:00 am - 12:30 pm at the Hunt Funeral Home, 3035 Old Washington Road in Waldorf, Maryland. A memorial service to honor the life of Olga Mercado will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Inurnment will be held at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Cheltenham on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org
