Patricia Haynes

Patricia Haynes, a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and beloved caregiver to countless children, passed away leaving behind a legacy defined by warmth, kindness, and service to others. She was 81 years old.

Born on September 19, 1944, in St. Louis City, Patricia was the only child of the late Robert Leroy Jordan, a Navy veteran and Swift packing supervisor, and the late Fannie Lee (Martin) Jordan, who served the Illinois education system as a food service coordinator for District 189. Growing up in a household dedicated to hard work and public service, Patricia carried those values into her own life. She graduated from Lincoln Senior High School in East St. Louis, Illinois, with the class of 1963, and went on to further her studies at the University Business College.

Patricia’s professional life was a testament to her nurturing spirit. Many individuals throughout the community knew her from her extensive and impactful career at The Primary House in Radcliff, Kentucky, where she worked as both a daycare worker and supervisor. Patricia loved every single baby and child she cared for as if they were her own, leaving an indelible mark on generations of local families. Her dedication to childcare and service also extended to her work at Morning Star Baptist Church in Radcliff, the Post Exchange at Fort Knox, the C.E.T.A. Hardin County Board of Education in Elizabethtown, and her earlier years working at Christian Hospital and the Doctors Hospital for Mentally Retarded Children in East St. Louis.

Outside of her career, Patricia was a kind soul who truly never met a stranger. She possessed a deep, lifelong passion for gardening, finding immense joy in tending to her plants and flowers. Her beautiful green thumb was a source of pride, and she was overjoyed to be publicly recognized when her garden was featured in the News Enterprise as the “Yard of the Month”.

Patricia was the proud mother of two children, Da-Wyone C. (Dawn) Haynes of Louisville, Kentucky, and Barbara M. (Isaiah) Abraham of Brandywine, Maryland. She was a doting grandmother to Isaiah Abraham II, Dejah Abraham, and Destinee Haynes, all of whom brought immense joy to her life. She is also survived by her dear cousins, Michael Martin and Ruth (Sandy) Callicott; second cousin, Jakari Callicott; and a tight-knit circle of special family friends including Ronald Holcomb, Joann (Mac) McCree, Shellie Chinn, and Aundra (Rodrick) Jackson.

Patricia’s gentle nature, generous heart, and bright smile will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In honor of Patricia’s memory and journey, the family respectfully requests that contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s Prince George’s County (http://act.alz.org/goto/Patricia_Haynes) on September 19th 2026, to support the ongoing fight against Alzheimer’s disease.
