Shirley Ann (Kelly) King was born in DC on July 29, 1942. After graduating from Surrattsville High School in Clinton in 1960, she worked for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). She worked until 1964 when she resigned to start a family. Besides raising her daughters, Shirley kept busy with Camp Fire and bowling. Susan and Sharon began bowling in 1977 at St. Charles Bowl (no longer around); Shirley became a certified bowling coach, and then Secretary/Treasurer of the VirMar District Young American Bowling Alliance (YABA). She managed numerous youth tournaments in the Virginia, Maryland and DC area for many years while continuing to bowl in her own leagues and tournaments, some years bowling in four leagues at a time. She served as the Secretary and/or Treasurer for many of them and made several lifelong friends. Shirley was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame in 1999.
In addition to bowling Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her three grandchildren. She usually had a fresh batch of Snickerdoodles ready for them each time they visited.
Shirley is survived by Susan and Sharon (Bob), grandchildren Troy (Randi), Brett, and Kali Konzen, three nephews and many cousins.
Shirley often stated that she didn’t want an official obituary written when she "left the building"; she wanted it to just say “Shirley King: she lived, she laughed, she loved.” She did indeed. 😊
