the age of 43 on September 23, 2020. Born on June 9, 1977 in
Washington, DC to the late Steven, Sr. and Saundra (Lacey)
Croston. Growing up in Charlotte Hall, MD, Steven and his
siblings, Stephanie and Stacy, attended Charles County Public
Schools. After graduating from La Plata High School in 1995, he
entered the U.S. Navy in the fall of 1995 and was trained as an
Electronics Technician. Upon completion of training he was
assigned to the USS Ponce, berthed at Norfolk, VA. Steven has
received numerous awards and achievements, after 10 years of
active service, to include the war of Kosovo. Later stationed at
Patuxent River Naval Air Station (NAS) in Lexington Park, MD,
he continued to serve in a civilian career at NAS Patuxent River.
Steve was a devoted son, brother, uncle, bonus dad, and true friend
to all that knew him. He was a leader, smart, and respected. His beloved activities and interests
included motorcycles, four wheelers, the race track, of course the Washington football team
(formerly known as the Redskins), Star Wars, and exploring new foods and places with his
brother Stacy and his “Coronas”. However, his greatest loves were his family, especially his
nieces and nephews, bonus daughter and his beloved dog Misty, a pocket pit bull. He took great
pride in exploring new adventures with each. Anyone that knew him also knew his love for
music and movies. You knew his mood by what was playing.
Steve is survived by his mother Saundra, a Howard alumna, a sister Stephanie, brother
Stacy and his wife Ashley (known as “lil sis”), nieces Ja’Nae Pickeral, Shawntae Pickeral, Tiara
Pickeral, nephews Jordan Lacey-Croston, Gabriel Pickeral, Rick DiFabrizio, a bonus daughter
Jazmine Knox, a Great Aunt Vivian Harris, and numerous other aunts, uncles, and host of
cousins, and extended family, friends and brothers-in-arms. His presence and contagious smile
will be missed.
