 We were very sorry to hear of Tom's passing.We met Tom and Jane in Florida through our parents Bill and Dorothy Troxel. Tom and Jane were a good example of lives lived by  faith and together as a couple they gave so much in love and caring to others. Tom will be greatly missed but we know he has found peace and rest and joy in his heavenly home.Our condolances to the family and dear sweet hugs to Jane.

When we first met Tom in FLorida somewhere around 1987, as a new next door neighbor to our parents, he gave us card, Thomas E. Schmidt, Esquire, and we then knew he was a personality to be reckoned with!  From then on we always had laughter, stories of life and travel, books reviews, kind hospitality, cocktail hour, and toasts with a dinner thrown in here and there. Retirement years were good for both my parents and Jane and Tom as my mom was amazed to find out that Jane had the same china pattern. Also each couple had two daughters just about the same ages, Karen and Robin, whom we have enjoyed meeting over the years.  In addition, on December 31, my mom was always thinking up a way to wish Tom a Happy Birthday on New Years Day.  Being the Christmas holidays and a vacation, we seemed to be always visiting at that time so the one I especially remember was a large home made "Happy Birthday Tom" banner on our lanai that faced Tom and Jane's lanai as a morning surprise! Again, there was laughter and fun and invitations for cocktails to share in the fun. We shared their pride over the years in their granddaughter, Myka, and traded holiday traditions of family visits. We heard of life in Maryland, his flying experience and numerous law stories!
We know he had a full life and was blessed with many friends and a great family.  For that we are thankful.  We cherish his memories and are grateful that both Tom and Jane were at the right place at the right time to intersect with our lives. He will live on through the stories he told and the love he shared with all.
One last memory is our good bye when it came time to move back to Maryland to be with daughter, Karen, and son-in-law, Mike.  They were leaving in September so we, being snow birds, made a special trip down to see them.  Over cocktails they asked us if we wanted to buy their house... something we had never considered.  But by the end of the week we had made a deal and shook hands over it.  We bought the house and that has turned out to be a wonderful experience for us as owning it has allowed us to share time with friends who have now bought other property in Cinnamon Cove.  It has also allowed us to meet new people who are new friends, and to be an extra location for family during the holidays.  So we thank them for that even though it must have been hard for them to say good bye.  We often tell the story of the handshake!!! 
Our hearts go out to all of you and know we think of you!
Our memories of visiting Tom and Jane in their new "apartment" up the elevator at Karen and Mike's beautiful new home on Chesapeake Bay are fond, as is our last visit to meet for lunch just two years ago.
