Betty Louise (Russell) Scott, 88, passed away on September 24, 2016 in Yakima. Betty was born June 18, 1928 to Joseph and Florence Russell in Ponca City, Oklahoma. She married Bernard Roland Scott on June 7, 1944 in Winfield, Kansas. Bernard and Betty spent 71 wonderful years building a home and family in White Swan together. Mom loved her three children, five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren fiercely they were the light of her life. She is expecting one great-great grandson to be born in February 2017.
Mom worked outside the home at different jobs throughout her life, but her favorite job she loved most was working for the White Swan School District as a Cook. She made lifelong friends in Jeanette Lawrence and Sophie Blodgett. They traveled to many cook’s conventions throughout Washington State. In 1982, mom was awarded the Louise Sublette Award Sponsored by the Washington School Food Services Association. Mom taught a couple of 2nd grade classes about nutrition. She loved working with all the kids in the different grades. She told the students that even if she had not won the award she was a winner in her heart because she tried. These were some of the best times of her life as a professional.
Mom belonged to many different organizations over the years in the White Swan community and in those organizations she always stepped up to be a board member in each one. She belonged to the White Swan Grange, School Food Service Association, White Swan CB Club (her handle she went by was “Cookie”) and she was one of the founding members to help establish the White Swan library for the small community.
Upon here retirement she loved to go camping and fishing; two of her favorite places to camp was Mossy Rock and the La Wis Wis Campgrounds. She also traveled to Prineville to camp in the Ochoco National Forest and to the Wenatchee Forest with her family.
Mom knitted hundreds of afghans all her life and if you were lucky enough you would receive an afghan, baby afghan or wash cloth for a special occasion or just because she wanted you to have one.
Mom loved her three children with all her heart she always talked about them spending countless hours up at the ranch in Medicine Valley having fun together making a lot of memories together.
Grandma’s five rowdy grandchildren, whom she loved to have come spend time at her home in Medicine Valley, would run the hills and pastures all over Medicine Valley causing ruckus. We always wanted her to cook breakfast because she always made her famous Mickey Mouse pancakes. Grandma always made us tuna sandwiches and Kool-Aid for lunch we would take it out to the sage brush fields where we were building forts or running around. We caused her so much more work but she always wanted us to come back. Grandma loved all her grandkids but she had special relationships with each one of her great-grandchildren. Grandma always had enough love for everyone.
