Darold Dean Sherbahn

YAKIMA – (Darold) Dean Sherbahn, 98, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Blossom House.

He was born May 2, 1915 to Benjamin and Goldie Sherbahn in Wayne, Nebraska. Dean was the oldest child in a family of 7 boys and 2 girls. He graduated from Lynch High School after spending a year in the Civilian Conservation Corp. In 1939, he moved his family to Wapato, WA. He was a veteran of World War II, spending 3½ years in the Army and serving in Iceland.

He met Aline Evans at church in Wapato. They were married April 20, 1947 by Dean’s brother in Mt. Vernon, WA. Two years later, they welcomed their first daughter, Susanne Kaye, to the family and 4½ years later Linda Faye was born. (They lived in Parker through their 57+ years of marriage).

He was a Post Office letter carrier for 30 years in Wapato and served as a Parker Volunteer Fireman for 25 years.

Dean enjoyed hunting & fishing with Aline for many years. Other hobbies included caring for the many fruit trees and other crops in his yard. He was a Mariners and Seahawks fan. Dean thoroughly enjoyed his two grandsons, David & Michael.

He is survived by 2 daughters, Susanne (Sherbahn) Baxter and her husband Robert of Renton, Linda (Sherbahn) LaRock and husband Doug of West Valley (Yakima), and 2 grandsons, David Baxter of Anaheim, CA and Michael Baxter of Spokane, WA. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Donald Sherbahn of Burbank, WA and Lawrence Sherbahn of Milton, KY and one sister, Lotus Hudson of Tacoma, WA.

He was preceded in death by his wife (Catherine) Aline Sherbahn in 2004, an infant daughter, his parents, 4 brothers and one sister.

A funeral service is planned for Thursday, November 14 at 1:00 pm at Merritt Funeral Home at 218 W. 3rd St. in Wapato. Burial will follow at Reservation Community Memorial Park on West Wapato Road.

He had lived at Blossom House (assisted living) for 4 years. Thanks to all who took care of him and loved him while he was there. Thanks to Dr. Whittlesey, Mountain View Home Health, and then Lower Valley Hospice for their care these last months.
