Edward Schafer

Ed was born April 20, 1925 in Hardin, Montana. He moved with his family at an early age to Yakima Valley, where he grew up and learned hard work at a very young age, that hard work truly taught him the value of a dollar. He met the love of his life, Dorothy Hofferber, they were married Aug 30, 1946. They were blessed with 3 wonderful children and almost 60 years of marriage before Dorothy’s passing in 2005. In his life Ed worked for Benz Bros., U & I Sugar, Western Farmers, Cenex and finally retiring from Del Monte in 1997. In His younger years Ed enjoyed fishing, gardening and wood working. Ed was a man of few needs or wants, he found much contentment in living a simple life. He will be missed by many. Ed is survived by 2 daughters, Jan (Paul) Weigand of Yakima, Bev (Bud) Rogers of Cowiche and 1 son, Ed (Velda) Schafer of Terrace Heights. 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, his parents, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.

Visitation will be held today at Merritt Funeral Home in Wapato from 4 to 7 p.m.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Reservation Community Memorial Park.
