Florence ‘Liz’ Lucei, of Toppenish, took flight to the heavens to be with her Creator Monday June 6, 2016. Liz entered this world March 15, 1941 in White Swan, WA, born to Robert Lucei and Edna Andy. She was a proud member of the Yakama Nation and a respected traditional basket weaver.
For many years Liz dutifully kept the ranks at Yakama Nation Cultural Resources in check and on time.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Marvin Lucei and sisters Eleanor Lucei, Rose Lucei and Sandra Decoteau.
She is survived by her companion of many years Robert Luton, brothers Norman Lucei and Wayne Decoteau, sisters Arlene George, Christine Lucei Kipp, Norma Williams, Roberta Wahwassuck, Mary Decoteau, and Ella James, and numerous nieces and nephews. With her big heart showing through her care and compassion, she was a mom, aunt and grandma to many others. We will all miss your smile!
All life is short, yet Liz packed hers to the fullest, leaving many loving memories behind. We wish Liz well having escaped her earthly confines to travel her new limitless journey. She loved cats, traveling to visit family from Oregon to Arizona or Kansas, with a casino stop or two along the way, watching nieces and nephews in their sports endeavors and tuning into the Seahawks. Above all she loved family beyond measure. No need to fret, she will still be checking in to ask how you have been, laughing and kidding around, yet with care and concern. Yes, her phone is no longer her lifeline, but she has a new ‘wireless’ connection, the God unlimited plan. We will all see her again eventually, at the ultimate family reunion in the sky. She will be waiting with her big Mountain Dew mug in hand, sitting in her lawn chair, ready to trade stories and exchange smiles and a good laugh.
A Dressing Service will be held at 10 AM Thursday June 9, 2016 at Merritt Funeral Home, Wapato, WA. Overnight services will follow at Toppenish Creek Longhouse, White Swan, WA, departing at 7 AM Friday June 10, 2016 for burial at Toppenish Creek Cemetery.
