Gerald D. King, age 71, passed away October 19, 2016 in Yakima, WA. He was born on May 26, 1945 to loving parents Mervin Oliver and Evelyn Jane Putman King in Yakima, WA. Gerald grew up in Wapato, WA and graduated from Wapato High School. Then at the age of 14 he worked for King Well Drilling for a number of years. Then he went to Walla Walla, WA and worked for Harold’s Electric during the day and at nights he worked at the American Legion. That is where he met the love of his life, the beautiful Vickie Kennedy. They have been together for 47 years. Gerald and Vickie moved back to Wapato to work at King Plumbing and Heating until he took over after his father retired. Gerald ran the business until 2004 when he retired and finally had time to really enjoy his life.
He loved to travel, go to casinos and discover new places with Vickie and many other wonderful family members and friends. Gerald always made sure that his family came first. There will be a huge void in the family, he will be deeply missed. Gerald was an amazing man, a “Jack of all trades,” if it was broke he fixed it. His favorite catchphrase was “Can’t Never Did Nothing” meaning he didn’t believe in the word can’t!
Gerald is survived by his wife Vickie King, children Jerred King, and Kimberly (Herman) Diaz, siblings Rodney King and Rena (James) Doornink. He is also survived by his grandchildren Anthony King, Brandon Cagle, and Ashleigh Diaz.
Viewing and visitation will be held at Merritt Funeral Home in Wapato, WA Wednesday, October 26, 2016 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
