Katherine was born to John W. and Gertrude (Eaton) McCarthy, November 6, 1914 in Arco, Idaho. She attended school in Moreland and Bernice, Idaho, until they moved to Washington in 1925, settling in Wapato, where she attended school.
Katherine married Laurel H. Miller on October 8, 1932 in Wapato, Washington. Katherine and Laurel, her beloved husband of 77 years, were long-time residents of Wapato. Katherine worked as a fruit sorter and packer for Blue Ribbon and Snokist warehouses in Wapato. She enjoyed working in her yard and flower gardens. One of her greatest achievements, however, was her expertise in the area of homemaking. She was an excellent cook and shared her culinary skills with family and friends. Katherine and Laurel were members of the Yakima First Presbyterian Church.
Katherine is survived by her nephew, Gary McCarthy and wife Charlotte; nephew Bruce McCarthy and wife Kristina; niece Erma Bauer; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Frieda Miller; nephews Gary Randall and wife Marjorie, Jerry Miller and wife Anita, Ray Randall, David Miller and wife Roxana; nieces Darlene Danner and husband Ed, Carol Stimmel and husband Larry, Donna Brannan and husband Jerry as well as many great and great-great nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband Laurel Miller, her parents, John W. and Gertrude McCarthy, one brother John “Jack” McCarthy, and her step-brother, William “Bill” Wallace
Katherine was a beautiful woman who will be remembered for her grace and kindness and unconditional love. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Katherine’s caregiver, Matilde Mendoza.
Graveside services will be held Monday, February 14, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Tahoma Cemetery. Those who wish to attend should meet at the cemetery. Memorials may be made in Katherine’s name to the American Cancer Society. Merritt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
