She was born in Crane, Missouri on April 18th, 1921 to William and Dillie LaFollette, and grew up
with 11 siblings.
She met her husband - Luther Stephens (Steve) - in Klamath Falls, Oregon in 1945. They
moved to Wapato, Washington in 1947 and began their family of 6 children.
Ruby worked most of her life serving others. She was passionate about helping anyone and
everyone in need. Her generous heart allowed her to open her home to family and friends
who needed a place to stay or to just "hang out". She enjoyed teasing and "cutting up" to
make us laugh. She loved the babies! Her last whispered sentence was, "Give me that
baby!"
She worked diligently on the "War of Poverty" program through the Wapato Community
Center. Her love for others, caring and generous spirit will be missed by those who knew
her.
She is preceded in death by her Son, Billie Stephens. Survivors include her son, Dan
Stephens - wife Joyce (Nellie) Fulmer-Stephens of Zillah, Washington, son, Chuck
Stephens of Wapato, Washington, son, Tim Stephens - wife Tammy (SelvIdge) Stephens of
Columbia Falls Montant, daughter, Pam Meyers - husband Jeff Meyers of Yakima
Washington, son, Randy Stephens - wife Karen (Schwindt) Stephens of Yakima, 11 grand Children, 25 great grandchildren and 1 great - great grandchild. .
The family would like to express their appreciation to Regional Hospice Care, hospice
volunteers, Home Health Care, and the excellent care providers whom Ruby came to love as family
You will have an opportunity to share a memory at the service or, you may legibly write
your memory and bring with you for someone else to read. The written memories may be
placed in a basket next to the guest book. .
Viewing will be on Thursday June 12th from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and the celebration of life
service will be held on Friday June 13th at 1:00 pm, both at Merritt Funeral Home in Wapato. Burial at Reservation Memorial Park.
