

Shaniah was born September 11, 1996 in Yakima, WA. She was raised in Wapato, and was a student at Wapato Middle School. Shaniah was a member of the Yakama Nation and Chippewa Tribe. Her hobbies included basketball, soccer, and running. She enjoyed dancing at Pow-Wows, and also enjoyed all the traditional Longhouse ways. Shaniah loved being around friends and family. She was an outgoing and free spirited happy young lady, and a very loving, happy girl.
Shaniah is survived by her mother, Frances Jackson; fathers, Greg Puyette and Liandro Briseno; brothers, Sean and Joseph Smartlowit; sisters, Kyra Jackson, Willow H. Jim, and Rachel Puyette; grandmothers, Anita Puyette and Mary L. Jackson. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Curtis Puyette, Heather and Beth Smartlowit, and Tiffany M. Feil, grandparents, Andrew and Inez Jackson, John and Lucy Cassaway, James Selam, and Ernest Jackson, Sr., as well as numerous aunts and uncles.
Dressing Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at Merritt Funeral Home in Wapato. Following the dressing service, she will be transported to the Toppenish Longhouse for overnight services. Burial will be Thursday morning, February 10th in the Yesmowit Cemetery in White Swan. Merritt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
