Born in Ada, Oklahoma Territory on March 5th, 1907, Cloma Hoekstra passed away peacefully in Oklahoma City on February 23, 2013 just shy of her 106th birthday. A lifelong resident of the state, she and Oklahoma were almost exactly the same age, Cloma arriving in this life some eight months ahead of statehood. She spent that life as a proud Sooner, living in the same house in Oklahoma City for 46 years until 2009 when advancing age finally forced her to move (albeit unwillingly) to an assisted living center. There she continued to be as lively and feisty as ever up until the very end. She leaves behind her not only more than a century of memories but six grandchildren and five great grandchildren who will never forget her pioneer strength, frontier spirit, downright gumption, and abiding faith in the Lord with whom she has now gone to live forever. It is only to be hoped that they serve ham steak and chocolate cream pie in heaven. Cloma may kick up a bit of a fuss if they don’t. Services will held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, February 26 at Guardian West Funeral Home, followed by graveside services at Memory Lane Cemetery, Harrah Oklahoma. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. on Monday at Guardian West Funeral Home.
