Myrtle Cockrell passed away April 21, 2018 at the age of 92. She was born on August 8, 1925 in Gotebo, OK to Myrkle Luther and Esta Ava Blair Jones. Myrtle graduated from Lake Valley high school in 1943 and moved to Oklahoma City with her sister, Mary. Very shortly after arriving in OKC, she met Marshall McCurley and they married August 14, 1943. They were married for 29 years and enjoyed the many activities of raising a family. Myrtle and Marshall divorced in 1973. Myrtle was a bookkeeper for Prime Petroleum Products in Oklahoma City for over 30 years. Near the time of her retirement she met and married Clyde Cockrell. They enjoyed bowling together and traveled extensively, taking many bus trips and cruises. Myrtle was a member of Portland Avenue Baptist Church for over 65 years. She was also an avid Texas Ranger and OKC Thunder fan. Myrtle was one of 10 children. Her brothers and sisters were Leon, Loyal, Ruby, Trudy, Carl, Mary, Greta, Wilma and D. W. They, along with her parents and her husband Clyde have all preceded her in death. She is survived by two children, son, William D. “Bill” McCurley and wife, Linda of Blanchard and daughter, Barbara McCurley of Oklahoma City, two stepdaughters, Liz and husband Mike Crews of Sulphur, Oklahoma, Sherri and husband Frank Ibach of Norman, Oklahoma, two step-grandsons, one step-granddaughter and three step-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews, their families, and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 25, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Guardian West Funeral Home on NW 41st and MacArthur Blvd. in Oklahoma City, with the family available to greet friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Graveside service will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 26 with Reverend Johnny Wray, officiating.
