William “Bill” Joseph Cavaness, 92, passed away Dec. 10, 2012 at his home in Warr Acres, OK. He was born on Jan. 10, 1920 to D.M. and Marie Cavaness (deceased) in Chickasha, OK where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping with his Dad and brother, Dan. While attending Chickasha High School, Bill participated in debate and traveled all over the state, winning many competitions. He enrolled in pre-law at the University of Oklahoma in 1938 and a year later enlisted in the Army. During WWII, Bill served in the Army Air Corp. Technical Training Command as an airplane and engine instructor for the B-17 and B-29 Bombers, among others, he served 4 ½ years, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. After the war, William returned to OU and studied under Bruce Goff, graduating with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1951 and a BA in History. He became A.I.A. certified in 1958 and later NCARB certified and opened his own practice in 1963 which he maintained until today. During his career he designed many commercial as well as residential buildings, including hotels, offices, & churches. William married Betty Cassil Faust on April 13th, 1952. After her passing in 2000, Bill began ballroom dancing, made many friends and enjoyed performing in dance showcases and competing in competitions. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty, and his daughter, Pamela Sue Cavaness. He is survived by son, Jere William, daughter Lynda Louise and husband Alan Frizzell, Grand-daughter, Gina Pinc and husband Joseph Buendia and their children, Madaline and Bennett. Step-Grandchildren include Alicia and Chris Kennebeck and son Seth; Jeff and Amy Frizzell,and children, Piper and Gibson. Bill was a longtime member of the Church of Christ Scientist, loved God and attended church regularly his entire life. Funeral Service is Friday, December 14th, 2 P.M., at Guardian West Chapel, 5820 N. W. 41st Street, Oklahoma City, OK
