Adele Joyce Lewandowski, age 73 of Harper Woods, Michigan passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Ascension St. John Hospital & Medical Center in Detroit. Adele was born July 14, 1948 in Hamtramck, Michigan, daughter of the late Stanley Casimir and the late Irene Dorothy (nee: Sidur) Sikora.
It’s always good to lead with a love story, and the one shared by Adele and Dennis was especially warm. Growing up in the same neighborhood together, the two were actually childhood sweethearts,…yet little did they know back then of the blessings God had in store for them. Friendship began to blossom as they shared their first date by going to the movies. That would lead to some fine dining enjoyed at a local Coney Island, the ever-popular Genie’s Wienies in Hamtramck. There were countless great meals and conversations shared over time at the iconic eatery as the two lovebirds’ friendship turned to courting, and ultimately to a relationship of love that eventually led them to the altar at Our Lady Queen of Apostles Catholic Church in Hamtramck. In the company of family and friends alike, Adele & Dennis exchanged their vows of marriage on May 9, 1970, the beginning of which was a loving and supportive 51 years together raising a family and growing deeper in love with each passing day.
Now, if you were to peruse Adele’s work resume, you would see evidence of her time spent as a secretary in the clerical field. But to anyone who truly knew Adele, the best work she EVER did was serving her family as a caring homemaker and Mom. Though she exuded a great deal of dedication while on the job, there was never anything as rewarding as the nurturing of the loved ones entrusted to her care. One of the sweetest of her memories was the opportunity she was afforded in reading to her children. She loved grabbing a book and sitting with them, whether solely or together, and just watching them become mesmerized with each and every word. Yet her children were blessed to enjoy a number of wonderful memories with their Mom’s name all over them,…like the annual designing, sewing and creation of each of their Halloween costumes, fabricated with love year after year. And nobody will ever forget Adele’s beautiful Birthday Cakes. They were truly a masterpiece for the sweet tooth, and just as delectable to taste as they were to look at. Adele’s cakes were a sight to behold, and a loving tradition that her family will cherish. Through her genuine creativity, Adele made birthday’s special as well in the countless birthday cards and gifts she handcrafted and personalized with each person’s characteristics in mind. With a bit of a perfectionist’s mindset backing her up, you can just imagine how each card was truly a work of art and an extension of the love she held for that exact person. That simply made them all the more meaningful.
Adele’s creative spirit took another form as well, each time she entered a dance floor. Not everyone can dance, but that was never an issue for Adele. She loved to cut-a-rug, especially when she was swaying to her favorite music. Music was one of Adele’s sweet releases, as was her dancing, and they both called upon that inner nature that she loved to entertain and enjoy. Another of Adele’s favorite pastimes in life was immersing herself in the Hallmark Channel and the plethora of “feel good” movies that aired from the famous network. Known for its steady diet of wholesome, homespun fare, Adele was a longtime and devoted fan of the channel and the wonderful storylines that often lingered long after the shows aired.
Adele will also be remembered for her mindfulness when it came to her health and well-being, and the importance she placed on staying fit and active. She loved going for walks and could often be seen taking one of her long walks through the city, a simple fitness regimen that was easy for her to manage.
But of all that Adele treasured the most, nothing could compare to the matchless love she held for her precious family and the depths of her compassion poured out to them all. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Adele leaves a wonderful legacy of love to be embraced by all who were blessed to know her and be loved by her. She touched a multitude of hearts and souls in her journey this side of Heaven, may she now be blessed on the other side as she rests safely in the arms of God. She will be missed beyond expression and loved beyond measure.
Adele was the beloved wife of Dennis Michael Lewandowski. Dearest mother of Renee (Taylor) Hansen, Angela Graham, Nancy Ostrowski, and David (Donna) Lewandowski. Loving grandmother of Max (Ariana), Brendan, Sophia, Ava, Benjamin, Audrey, Claire, and Stefan. Cherished sister of Carol Felkowski, Stanley Robert Sikora, Daniel (Sharon) Sikora, Larry (Joni) Sikora, Elizabeth Sikora, and preceded in death by brother, Terence Sikora. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
