Albert V. Rizzo, age 96, passed away on June 4, 2026. Al was born in Detroit, Michigan, on January 23, 1930, to Antonino and Francesca Rizzo (Fontana). He was a first-generation American, born in the United States to his Sicilian parents.
Al grew up in Detroit alongside his parents and his beloved sister, Bridget. He graduated from Southeastern High School in Detroit in 1948. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953. In 1949, Al met the love of his life. They later married in 1956 and, in 1959, made their home in Warren, Michigan, where they raised their three children together. Family was the center of Al's life. He cherished every opportunity to be involved in his children's and grandchildren's lives, attending their activities and celebrating their accomplishments. He maintained close relationships with his entire extended family and shared especially strong bonds with his cousins, who were as dear to him as siblings.
Al enjoyed spending time on Lake St. Clair, where he loved boating with family and friends. He built a long and successful career at the General Motors Technical Center. Gifted with a talent for repairing and building just about anything, he became known throughout the family as "Mr. Fix It," always willing to lend a hand whenever someone needed help. Albert and his wife faithfully attended St. Paul Lutheran Church together for many years. He was also an enthusiastic automobile lover who enjoyed going to car shows and especially enjoyed attending the Woodward Dream Cruise. One of his greatest treasures was the first car he ever purchased, a 1953 Oldsmobile 88, which he bought after returning home from military service. That beloved car remained in his possession throughout his life and held countless memories, including a honeymoon journey with his wife along historic Route 66 to California.
Al was the beloved husband of 64 years to the late Gloria Rizzo. Loving father of Wendy (Don Ukrainec), Richard (Peggy), and Robert (Sheri). Proud grandfather of Anthony, Dominic, Adam, Christopher, Natalee, and Nicolas. Dear brother to the late Bridget.
