Allen Gilbert Brown, Jr., age 56 of Warren, died Friday, April 30, 2021 at Ascension St. John Hospital & Medical Center in Detroit. He was born February 15, 1965 in Royal Oak, Michigan, son of Shirley (nee: Miller) Brown and the late Allen Brown, Sr.
Though work should never define the man, Allen’s career story is one of encouragement and fortitude,…and one that should be told. For many years, Allen was employed with American Axle, a major supplier of drivelines and power trains to the automotive industry. After a long history with the car manufacturer’s, American Axle closed its doors and Allen found himself in quite unexpected territory. But with the work ethics and drive Allen possessed, it wasn’t long before he secured new employment,…but in an entirely different line of work. Following his training and introduction to the world of service, Allen was proud to become a licensed HVAC technician. He was 10 years into his time with Moceri’s when he passed away.
When Allen was not on the job, the pastimes he enjoyed were all wrapped up in one realm,…the outdoors! Residing in one of the premier states for those who love and thrive on activities in the open air, Allen was in seventh heaven each time he headed out on one of his excursions as a Michigander. He could have easily been an ideal promo spot for the “Pure Michigan” marketing geniuses.
Surrounded by the iconic Great Lakes, Allen was one of the many boat owners out there and he loved every moment he was afforded the pleasure of taking his watercraft out for a ride. Just navigating the waters and taking in the scenery along the way was pleasure enough for Allen,…but include a little fishing in the process and you had a day fit for a King. Fishing was one of Allen’s favorite escapes from the challenges of work, and he especially enjoyed how there was such peacefulness in the sport,…right up to the moment that bobber took a dive. Then it was “Game On, Baby!”
Getting back to nature afforded Allen another couple of pleasures,…his love of hunting and camping. Like many of his fellow Michigander’s, Allen always looked forward to hunting season and the opportunity to become his own version of Mort Neff. Equipped with all the right stuff, Allen would head out with his gear and the determination of coming home the Victor. When it came to camping, (like the throngs of those who know it well), there was just something unique and special about the camaraderie and comfort associated with the camping experience that Allen simply ate up. You could be set up next to total strangers, but it only took a few minutes before you were with the best of friends. There’s a relaxing nature that permeates the hearts and minds of all who camp, and Allen enjoyed being surrounded by all of that unique friendship. Also, with Michigan comes winter, and for Allen that meant strapping his ski’s to the top of the car and heading for the slopes. Cowabunga, Baby! Yes, he sure loved riding that lift to the top of the hill,...jumping off and careening down,…then doing it all again as often as the body cooperated. It was definitely exhilarating, which is what made it so appealing and another of his favorites.
Yet of all his pastimes and things he loved to do, spending time with family was his top priority and what he enjoyed doing the most. His family meant the world to him, and each moment spent together was a priceless treasure. A loving husband and father, Allen leaves us far too soon, but not without imparting the best of himself into the hearts and souls of all whose paths he shared. He touched a multitude of lives in his journey this side of Heaven, may he now enjoy the blessings on the other side as he rests safely in the arms of God. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally.
Allen was the beloved husband of Kelly. Dearest father of Logan and Kaley Brown. Loving son of Shirley (the late Allen Sr.) Brown. Brother of Sue (Jim) Ballard and the late Linda Brown.
Allen will lie In State on Monday, May 10th from 2:30 pm until the time of his Funeral Service at 4:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 3000 Twelve Mile Road in Warren, between Ryan & Dequindre Roads.
