Alphonse Louis Viola, age 86 of Warren, died Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit. He was born on May 17, 1928 in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, son of the late Rocco and the late Maria (nee: Carretta) Viola. In his early years, Al studied hard and applied himself to mastering his trade as an engineer in the automotive industry, a career he found quite rewarding and one in which he extended the utmost in dedicated service until his retirement.Like many of us, Al loved to enjoy a meal out on the town, and that almost always meant heading to the Roma Café. Of all the local eateries he had to choose from, that was his favorite. And the meals were especially tasty when they were being enjoyed prior to heading to a sporting event. A good meal,…a good game,…the combination made for a little slice of Heaven. And yes, Al loved his sports,…and was one of the most devout supporters of his famed Detroit teams. Though there's one to remain unmentionable, there was no greater banner waver than Al when it came to his treasured Tigers, Wings, and Lions. As for his Boys in the Honolulu Blue, the term "Die Hard" is probably the more appropriate. A Detroit Lions season tickets holder, Al has been loyal to his Gridiron Gang for many years. For as much as he enjoyed life's pleasures away from home, Al also enjoyed the many memories that were made right in his own backyard. He was quite the entertainer and host, and nothing much could match the joy more than watching his grandkids frolicking in the swimming pool. The welcome mat was always out at Al's Place, and there was always a bottle of beer or glass of wine to quench a visitor's thirst. He was truly a people-person and loved to share life's experiences,…especially with his loving family and friends. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Al possessed a magnetic personality that drew people to his friendly and warm nature, and made an impact that will never be matched or forgotten. He'll be missed immensely and loved eternally.Alphonse was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth. Dear father of Robert (Judith) Viola, Kathleen (Kerry) Hammer, David (Cheryl) Viola, Patricia (Steve) Ellison, and Karen (Brian) Jarvis. Loving grandfather of 15. Brother of Fernando Viola and Frieda Gale. Visitation for Al will be held on Wednesday, June 11th from 3-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. He will lie in state Thursday from 9:00am until time of the Funeral Mass at 9:30am at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Warren.
