Ann O’Kane McGuckin, age 78, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, in the comfort of her Warren residence, surrounded by the family she so lovingly devoted her life to. Born on June 16, 1947, in Glasgow, Scotland, Ann was the beloved daughter of the late John and Annie (née Campbell) Ralston. At the age of nine, she journeyed with her parents across the Atlantic to Detroit, Michigan, as they sought greater opportunities and a bright future in America. This monumental transition became the cornerstone of a life defined by resilience, warmth, and deep family bonds.
Ann grew up in the Metro Detroit area and graduated from Warren High School. Fate would soon lead her to meet the love of her life, Paul McGuckin, with whom she shared nearly five decades of unwavering devotion. Married in December almost 50 years ago, Ann and Paul built a beautiful life together, raising their four children in Hazel Park. Their home was filled with laughter, hard work, and the steady, heartfelt presence that Ann brought to everything she touched.
Throughout her life, Ann embraced many roles, especially during the years her children were young. She partnered with her sister-in-law to run a home daycare, offering care, comfort, and kindness not only to her own family but also to countless children in the community. Her nurturing spirit was simply part of who she was.
Ann lived a life rich with adventure and simple joys. She loved climbing onto the back of Paul’s Harley, traveling with him on unforgettable rides across the country. She enjoyed the thrill of visiting casinos and trying her luck at the slot machines, a pastime that always brought a smile to her face. Many cherished evenings were spent around the table with family and friends, sharing card games, including her favorite game, Hand, Knee, and Foot, and creating memories built on camaraderie and laughter.
A proud and dedicated member of the F.O.E. Auxiliary in Clawson, Michigan, Ann spent more than 20 years contributing to the organization’s fellowship and charitable mission. She also treasured the many camping trips her family took over the decades. These outings ultimately led to discovering Sutter’s Recreation in North Branch, Michigan, where the family found their permanent camping haven. Countless stories, campfire conversations, and moments of togetherness made Sutter’s a second home in Ann’s heart.
Ann’s greatest joy was her family. She was the beloved wife of Paul McGuckin; the loving mother of Dawn Morway, Heather (John) Pastorino, Patti (Murray Mullins) McGuckin, and Kari (JW Hurst) McGuckin. She was the cherished “Nanny” of Meghan (Eric), Josie (Zach), John, Jenna, Hannah, Braylon, Allena (Frank), Taylor, Amyah, and Harmoni; and the treasured Great-Nanny of nine great-grandchildren.
Ann is also survived by her dear brother William (Dawn) Ralston; and her loving sisters- and brothers-in-law JoAnne (Tim), Mary (the late Rick), Leo (Robin), Terry (Jay), and Mike (Joy). She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and close friends whose lives were enriched by her generosity, humor, and steadfast love.
Ann’s legacy is one of kindness, strength, and a boundless devotion to family. She will forever be remembered for her spirited nature, her love of adventure, and the warmth she offered to everyone blessed to know her.
In her memory, memorial contributions may be made to a hospice organization of your choice.
