She will be lovingly and forever remembered by her daughters, Anne Marie Lesch (Alan Bernstein) and Rosemarie (Lynn) Boyd, grandchildren Lisa Marie Boyd (Travis Morrison) and Derek (Abby) Boyd, great-grandchildren Teddy and Maddy Boyd, and niece Anni Dobberke of Ablach, Germany.
She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Peter Lesch, who passed away at age 91 on Dec. 30, 2017.
Anna, known as “Nanschi” to her German family and friends, was born in Molin (Molidorf), Yugoslavia, on Dec. 27, 1924 to Christof Tensch and Susanna Konzet. Her mother passed away when Anna was nine months old. At age 20, during World War II, she and other women in her village were taken prisoner by Russian forces and forced to work in Russian coal mines for the next five years. She was among the few who survived typhus during that time. After her release in 1949, she joined her father and stepmother in the displaced persons camp in Feffernitz, Austria. There she married Peter Lesch and gave birth to daughter Anne. They emigrated to the United States in 1952 and settled in Detroit.
She was an exceptionally strong and hardworking woman, always devoted to her husband and children and to creating a beautiful home. She was an expert seamstress, an extraordinary cook and baker, a skilled gardener, and kept an immaculate household. She never took a day off or had idle hands. Even while watching television in the evenings, she embroidered and crocheted, creating everything from fine lace to thick afghans, dresser scarves to delicate snowflake Christmas ornaments, still treasured and used by her daughters today. She made curtains for their homes, afghans to match all their sofas, tablecloths for their tables.
She willingly helped and supported her husband, children and grandchildren in any way she could, without ever hesitating or complaining. She was always thinking of and doing for others. Anyone who visited was treated to a delicious meal, usually their favorite foods, and homemade cakes, cookies and pastries. She made strudel by hand, puff pastry Napoleons from scratch, fancy yule logs every Christmas and her special bread at Easter.
In spite of the loss and trauma in her life, she loved to sing and dance, and had a delightful sense of humor. She was loved by everyone who knew her, and treated everyone she met with remarkable kindness and generosity. Her strength and compassion always provided refuge and comfort to her children and grandchildren. Their loss is immeasurable.
Visitation will be held at the Warren location of A.H. Peters Funeral Home on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025 from 10am until the time of service at 12 noon.
Entombment at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township.
