Anthony J. Szymanski, age 97 of Warren, died Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Henry Ford Hospital in Clinton Township, Michigan. He was born in Clarksville, Arkansas on January 17, 1913, son of the late Alexander and the late Catherine (nee: Holicki) Szymanski. With thanks & praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Anthony for his service to our country during World War II. As a soldier in the United States Army, he proudly answered the call to duty and fought valiantly to afford us the freedoms we enjoy today. By trade, Anthony was a butcher. He was very proud of what he did, and extremely skilled in his work. As the years progressed, Anthony became an integral part of the union efforts within his industry and would ultimately be elected as President of the Meat Cutter's Union. After many years of dedicated service, Anthony retired in 1976. A devoted husband, loving father, and friend to many, Anthony loved spending time with his family and friends. He was also a devout man of faith and a parishoner at St. Edmund Catholic Church in Warren. He enjoyed being involved within the church, and was a proud member of the St. Edmund Catholic Church Senior Club. Whenever the church's golden warriors were steppin' out, you'd find Anthony steppin' up! Many lives were touched by his spirit and verve for life, and the legacy of love he leaves behind is strong and true. Beloved husband of the late Virginia. Dear father of the late Michael. Father-in-law of Lyn Szymanski. Visitation for Anthony will be on Sunday, September 12th from 3-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. He will lie in state on Monday at St. Edmund Catholic Church from 11:00am until the time of Mass at 11:30am. Officiating the Mass will be Rev. Father Robert Witkowski. Please share memories of Anthony at his guest book.
