Barbara Johnson, 76, of Warren, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 9, 1949, the youngest child of Arthur and Alice, and grew up alongside her two older siblings, Andrew and Marie, in a close-knit, loving household. Barbara and her siblings attended St. Elizabeth Catholic School from kindergarten through high school.
After graduation, while spending time with friends, Barbara met Willie, the love of her life. It was love at first sight, and after four years of friendship, the two were married. Together, they raised three children: Paula,Lori, and Carrie. Barbara was a devoted and active mother, always present in her children’s lives. Her home was known for its warm Southern hospitality, where she often cooked large meals to feed her family and anyone who happened to stop by. She also found joy in canning, making sure there was always something special to share.
Family was everything to Barbara. She and Willie made sure to take their children on trips to Alabama in the summer to visit his side of the family, creating memories that would last a lifetime. In fact, on one of the drives home from Alabama, Barbara brought home a bushel of green beans, and was sitting in the passenger seat of the car snapping green beans the whole way home back to Michigan. Barbara’s devotion to her children extended beyond the home. She was deeply involved in their education, volunteering with the PTA and the band boosters, always eager to lend a hand. Her passion for helping others eventually led her to becoming a para-professional, as the kids enjoyed having her around so much. At the end of the school year, she would host an ice cream social for the kids where they could make whatever sundae they wanted.
As Barbara became a grandmother, her heart grew even fuller. She often said that while being a mother was a joy, there was something truly special about being a grandma. She adored her grandchildren and cherished every moment spent with them, alongside Willie, who was her constant companion.
Barbara was not only a loving mother and grandmother but also a devoted sister, aunt, and friend. She touched the lives of many with her generosity, warmth, and selflessness. Barbara’s legacy of love, care, and unwavering devotion to family will be missed by all who knew her.
Barbara’s memory will forever live in the hearts of those she loved and who loved her. She will be deeply missed.
She is welcomed into heaven by her cherished husband of 48 years; Willie B. Johnson.
She is survived by her adored children; Paula (Matthew) Japowicz, Lori Cordier, and Carrie Johnson; treasured grandchildren, Alicia Japowicz, Gwendalyn Cordier, and Bryant Cordier; loving siblings, Andrew (Donna) Dickman, and Marie (Dennis) Polega, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 3-9pm, with the funeral service to begin at 6:30pm on Friday, April 25th at D.S. Temrowski & Sons located at 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ mile).
