Born: July 14, 1938
Died: July 24, 2022
Barbara Murphy (Trepczynski) was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was a selfless, radiant woman with the ability to make every person she encountered feel special and was the light of every room she was in.
She was born to Joseph and Helen Trepczynski on July 14, 1938, in Detroit Michigan. After graduating from St. Augustine High School, Barbara worked as a keypunch operator for the state of Michigan where she met her husband, Jack Murphy. Jack noticed the cute girl on the fourth floor, and eventually through persistence and charm persuaded her to go on a date. They had a romantic courtship and soon were on their way to engagement. Originally, they were to be engaged on a moonlit ride on the Boblo Boat, but Barb told a racy joke and Jack decided to think about it. He of course came to his senses soon after and they were engaged at the Roostertail. This story became legend and they often joked about it. They had a beautiful wedding and honeymooned by driving across the country to Las Vegas. On their way back they were delayed by a snowstorm in Arizona. It was real, but most of their friends and family thought that the lovebirds made it up to have more time to celebrate. Together, they created a beautiful life and are survived by their nine loving children, seventeen adoring grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Her children are John Murphy, Shari (Don) Baldwin, Daniel (Cathy) Murphy, Ed Murphy, Kathy Murphy, Debbie (Pat) McAleer, Joe (Stephanie) Murphy, Tim (Robin) Murphy, and Patrick (Mary) Murphy.
Her grandkids are Nikki (Eric), Clinton, Bryan, Shannon, Brenna, Jack, Kevin, Conner, Nate, Keiran, Eleanor, Katie, Seamus, Helena, Tadhg, Áine, and Brigid. Her great-grandchildren are Raylan, and Langston.
She was loved by so many in her life including her eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by her siblings Richard, Vincent, Helen, Sue, and Jim. She will rejoice in seeing her siblings who have passed Louise, Dorothy, and Ron. She had a very special bond with her goddaughter, Hope Trepcyznski. She will be missed by her in-laws Tom and Jan Murphy and their children, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Barbara grew up in Detroit and lived the majority of her life with her husband and children in Warren. Their house was filled with music, laughter, and a bit of chaos (nine children will have that effect!) She was a smart lady who taught her children to be kind, loving and responsible. Barbara loved spending time with her family and feeding them the Polish dishes she grew up on. She adored music (especially Engelbert Humperdink) and could be found singing and dancing away with her friends and family whenever she got the chance. She always had a perfectly timed joke and was usually laughing with whoever she was around. She volunteered at Christmas for many years, designing and creating outfits for the Goodfellows Doll Program. She was always proud to hear how the children loved these handmade gifts and she won several awards over the years. This activity perfectly highlights her compassion and unyielding care for all, and showcased her talent in sewing, crocheting, and knitting.
She was a fiercely loyal person, who loved to stand up for the underdog. She also loved the color purple, getting a bargain and having a day out at the casino. She could always be counted on when you needed her. She gave great advice and even better hugs. She was a selfless person who always did what was best for her family without complaint. She loved largely and unapologetically and will be greatly missed by all she encountered. Those who love her can be comforted that she will at last be reunited with the love of her life, Jack.
A visitation for Barbara will be held Friday, July 29, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr Rd, Warren, Michigan 48088. A funeral service will occur Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 11:00 AM at A.H. Peters Funeral Home.
Barbara will be laid to rest in Resurrection Cemetery, 18201 Clinton River Rd, Clinton Township, MI.
