Barbara A. Price, age 61 of Sterling Heights, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital, Macomb Center in Warren. She was born on September 18, 1950 in Detroit, daughter of the late Richard and the late Doris (nee: Lystad) Lenk.In telling the story of Barbara, one of the greatest mentions would have to be how she treasured friendship, and how her verve for life found her surrounded by many of them throughout her life. Without question, one of the most cherished of these relationships was the friendship she shared with her brother, Rick. They were like peas in a pod, often getting into a bit of trouble together,'which Rick recalls was mostly Barb's fault. An early childhood remembrance was when they thought it would be really cool to dig an underground fort behind their house on Newport. The Edison easement ran behind the house, so they had a huge, open field to bore. It took them days to dig the hole, which they, then, covered with plywood and dirt to keep it under wraps. Everything was going just fine,'until the day that the lawn mower guy came through and ended up falling in the hole. Needless to say, that was the end of Rick & Barb's excavating projects. Another fond memory of brother Rick's are the many family camping trips they enjoyed at Port Crescent State Park in Port Austin, Michigan. Barb and Rick would be gone all day together enjoying the new friends they met each trip, hanging out at the coves on the state land next to the park. Endless summer fun for a couple of teenagers. But perhaps Rick's most treasured memory of Barb was when she took her dream trip to Hawaii to visit him while he was stationed there in the Army. Together with her friend, Carol, the two of them winged their way to the islands to join Rick (and his friend, George) for a little tropical splendor and a welcomed sibling reunion. They enjoyed many visits to the beach at Waikiki that week, and soaked up the beauty of Oahu in the '52 Chevy that Rick and George bought especially for the girls' visit. Rick reflects on how fantastic Barb looked on that trip, and how it will forever be a cherished memory. Then there's Barb's sister-in-law, Diane (Rick's wife), who remembers her friend fondly as well. Having met when Diane was transferred to Warren Woods High School in their sophomore year, Barb took Diane under her wing and introduced her to all her friends. It was an unselfish and compassionate thing to do, and Diane has never forgotten the care she came to know in her sister & friend. Diane also recalls some of the other traits that attracted her to Barb,'like her sense of humor, her warmth, and the little streak of 'wildness' that always made life interesting. From the parties at the cottage, to the picnics at Bloomer State Park, or merely the simple pleasure of sharing the beach with a good book in hand,'Barb's friendship and sisterhood meant the world to Diane. In the realm of funny, though, one of Diane's favorite memories of Barb will forever be wrapped around the pre-game meals for the boys' football team. The parents alternated these meals, but nobody could hold a candle to the spread that Barb laid out. There was so much food that the boy's could barely move on the field afterwards. It was just another example of Barb's kind and generous spirit.A loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend,'Barbara leaves behind a legacy of love that will never be forgotten, and will be deeply treasured by all who were blessed to know her. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally.Beloved wife of Dale. Dear mother of Jeff (Renee) Price, Andrea (Max) Stark, and Brian Price. Loving grandmother of Anderson and Elizabeth.
