Betty Jean Mullins, age 89, died Sunday, August 23, 2020 at Ascension St. John Hospital in Warren, Michigan. Betty was born April 18, 1931 in Eolia, Kentucky, daughter of the late Burton Parsons and the late Ruby (nee: Kilbourne).
Betty was raised in Kentucky where she also graduated high school. One day while walking down the road she met a handsome boy who proclaimed, “I am going to marry that girl”. Betty and Leonard Mullins did, in fact, marry, and after Leonard’s military service the two migrated north to Michigan where Leonard found work within the automotive industry.
Betty and Leonard eventually settled in the burgeoning community of Warren, Michigan. Betty found employment at Montgomery Wards Department store’s credit department, and Leonard worked for General Motors.
Over the years, Betty raised her daughter, worked, kept a tidy home, and was devout in her Christian faith. She never lost her southern country roots and loved listening to country music, especially Elvis and Johnny Cash. She and her husband would make their annual trek back to Kentucky to visit family and friends.
Later in life and into retirement, Betty and her husband enjoyed their trips to Florida and attending every school or sporting event their grandson was involved in. It was her family and her church that made Betty the happiest, along with her cherished relationship with her sister Billie. Betty will be forever missed by all whom she touched in life.
Betty was the beloved wife of the late Leonard Mullins, and dear mother of Brenda (John) Batts, and the late Sandra Mullins. She was the cherished grandmother of Alex Batts, step-grandmother of Evan (Katie) Batts, and great step-grandmother of Matthew, Brooke, and Michael. Further survivors include her dear sister, Billie (the late Hugh) Blackwell, the late Helen Roberts, and the late Dan Parsons. She is also survived by many other family members and friends.
Betty’s loved ones will greet family and friends on Saturday, August 29th from 10:00 am until the time of her Funeral Service at 11:00 am at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Road) in Warren, Michigan.
