

Carl Robert Lystad, age 94 of Warren, died Monday, December 17, 2018 at home in the company of loved ones and under the care of Heartland Hospice. He was born February 6, 1924 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, son of the late Carl Arvid and the late Dolly Nicolina (nee: Nilsen) Lystad.With thanks and praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to Carl for his service to our country during World War II. As a soldier in the U.S. Army, he served with honor and was willing to stand in harm's way for freedom's sake and in support of our allies around the world. Truly part of America's "Greatest Generation," Carl answered his call to duty with pride & patriotism and we extend our posthumous gratitude for his brave and valiant service.Carl was the beloved husband of Elsie, dear father of Janis (David) Detlefs, and loving grandfather of Lea, Benjamin, and James. Treasured brother of Donald (Marilynn) Lystad, and preceded in death by brothers, Leonard (Margaret) Lystad, John Bill Lystad, and sister, Doris (Richard) Lenk. The family has chosen cremation for the disposition of Carl's remains. A Memorial Visitation to celebrate Carl's life will be held on Friday, February 8th from 4-8 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd.) in Warren. On Saturday the 9th, a Memorial Service, to include the sharing of eulogies and rendering of military honors, will take place at the funeral home. The family welcomes guests from 10:00 am until time of the service at 11:00 am.Following the service, the family cordially invites everyone to join them for a luncheon being held in Carl's honor at The Masters Restaurant located at 1775 Thirteen Mile Road, Madison Heights, Michigan 48071.
