Born in Cleveland, Ohio, to James and Ethel (Boyd) Leahey, Carol grew up in Detroit, where she attended Immaculata High School. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Detroit, where she met the love of her life, Bill. She later earned her master’s degree from Arizona State University before marrying Bill in 1964. They shared 46 happy years of marriage, building a loving family and a lifetime of cherished memories together before his passing in January 2011.
Carol dedicated many years to teaching and making a difference in the lives of others. Her commitment to service extended well beyond the classroom. She served as a Girl Scout leader and later as a trainer, helping guide and inspire generations of young women. She volunteered with Macomb Literacy Partners and was a dedicated member of St. Martin de Porres Active Christian Women’s Club (ACWC) for more than 40 years.
Above all, Carol treasured her family. She was a devoted mother to her four daughters, Karen (Josef Wainz), Maureen (Frank Roth), Renee (Bryan Adams), and Kelly (Mark Gutting). She was a proud and loving grandmother to Jeffrey Wainz (fiancée Samantha), Timothy Wainz, Frank W. Roth, and Amanda Roth. She also held a special place in her heart for her many beloved nieces and nephews.
Carol embraced life with curiosity, enthusiasm, and a sharp mind. A world traveler, she loved exploring new places and especially enjoyed spending winters in Florida. She was a voracious reader and an expert crossword puzzle solver, always ready to challenge herself with a good book or a particularly difficult puzzle. Her love of learning, generous spirit, and dedication to family and community were defining parts of her life.
Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill, and her sister, Lois Snowgold. She will be deeply missed by her daughters, grandchildren, extended family, and the many friends whose lives she touched. Her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the students she taught, the people she helped, and the countless memories that will continue to bring comfort and smiles to those who knew and loved her.
A Memorial for Carol will be held on Monday, November 2nd with an Instate at 10am until the time of her Memorial Mass at 10:30am at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 31555 Hoover Rd, Warren, MI 48093.
