

Catherine Mary Giacalone, affectionately known as "Granny" by her friends, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2014 surrounded by her family. She was born on February 27, 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri to Anna and John.Catherine later moved to Michigan where she met her best friend, husband and soul mate, Peter Giacalone. They married on July 15th, 1950. He preceded her death on November 28th, 1994. Together they raised 2 children, Mary Ann (James) Andrysiak and Peter (Elaine) Giacalone. She enjoyed spending time with her 6 grandchildren; Jim (Renanda) Andrysiak, Ann Marie (Aaron) Fox, Peter Giacalone, John (Mattie) Andrysiak, Katie (William) Fisher and Emily (Joe) Yimin. One of her greatest joys in life was playing with her great-grandchildren; AJ, Peter, Milayna, Toni, Layla, Arianna, Keira, Carmin, Olivia, Luke, Ayden, Joe, Giovanni "Butch", Gianna, Adalynn and Ava. Catherine is also survived by her sister, Mary (Tony) Marino. Catherine was also preceded in death by her brother, Frank (Rosalie) Giacalone, and her parents, John Giannola and Anna (Pietro) Giacalone.Early in life, Catherine enjoyed traveling with her husband and children. A favorite spot was Metro Beach, and she also held fond memories of visiting Hawaii. In 2003 she moved to Kokomo to be closer to her family. Later she had a passion for going to the casinos and playing bingo which is where she was given the nickname "Granny". Another of her favorite pastimes included going shopping and eating out. She had a real passion for cooking and baking, often spending hours in the kitchen whipping up a host of culinary delights for her loved ones. During the summer, she loved just sitting outside in the sun, soaking up the rays and watching the kids play. She could often be found watching the sporting events and band concerts of her grandchildren, and later the great grandchildren. Visitation for Catherine will be held on Monday, March 3rd from 3-9pm, with a 6pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren. She will lie in state on Tuesday from 10:30am until time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00am at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Sterling Heights.In lieu of flowers, donations are welcomed to the Howard Community specialty Hospital, 821 N.
