Cecilia Mary Wrobel, age 100 of Warren, died Sunday, August 17, 2014 at the Angelic Foster Care Center in Warren, her residence for the past 5 years. She was born January 20, 1914 in Detroit, daughter of the late Joseph and the late Bernice (nee: Troczynski) Gladkowski. It's pretty much common knowledge that people are living longer, but Cecilia's longevity still exists within the minority of those who are graced to pass that 100 year milestone. And the thing that sets her apart,...she remained feisty and alert right up to the end. Perhaps it was because she kept her body fit by exercising, which for Cecilia came in the form of walking. She did so regularly, and with a brisk pace to her step as well. Or perhaps it was because she kept her mind fit by solving puzzles, which was one of her favorite pastimes, too. She may have only made it as far as 8th grade, but there was no greater competitor at the game of Scrabble than Cecilia. And like most word solving puzzler's out there, one of her favorite game shows on TV was "Wheel of Fortune." She watched the show religiously and it never grew old. When it came time for a little fun, few treats could match the joy and pleasure that Cecilia found in playing card games. Her favorite was Pinochle, but she really wasn't picky. It was more about the gathering of friends and loved ones around the table enjoying a bit of refreshments and conversation,...and yes, a little friendly competition as well. Cecilia also found great pleasure in tempting Ol Lady Luck each time she sat down to a Bingo table, or with each lottery ticket she purchased. Along with being a resourceful & loving wife, mother and grandmother, Cecilia's time to herself was often a choice of either crocheting or curling up with a good book. She loved to read, especially when it came to the ever-popular and steamy romance novels. Maybe THAT is what kept her going all these years!?!? Whatever it was that gave her the opportunity to live such a long and fruitful life, there's no question that much can be attested to the "happy" countenance she carried throughout her journey. She had a heart of gold and set such a loving example to all who were blessed to know her. She leaves a legacy of love that will keep her close at heart for eternity, and her presence will be missed immensely. Cecilia was the beloved wife of the late Walter. Dearest mother of Stephen (Lorenzina) Wrobel and Joan (Carl) Knobelsdorf. Loving grandmother of Stephen, Julie (Jim) Wojewnik, Melissa, Mark, Kurt, and great-grandmother of Ava and Alivia. Preceded in death by siblings Helen Freda, Charlotte Sitko, Sophia Sobiechowski, Stanley Gladkowski and Joseph Gladkowski.Visitation for Cecilia will be held on Thursday, August 21st from 5-9pm and Friday 2-9pm, with a 7pm Rosary Service on Friday, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren. She will lie in state on Saturday from 9:30am until time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00am at St. Faustina Catholic Church in Warren. She will be laid to rest on Monday, August 25th at St. Hedwig Cemetery in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. Please share memories of Cecilia at her memory book.
