Born in Detroit and raised in Warren, Michigan, Cheryl graduated from Center Line High School in 1969. It was during those early years that she met and married her high school sweetheart, Larry Chalou.
Cheryl’s journey took her briefly to Las Vegas and later to Pompano Beach, Florida, before returning to her Michigan roots. She raised her three children in Warren, where she built a warm and loving home. A dedicated and hardworking woman, Cheryl began her career as a bookkeeper and later worked at Chrysler, where she proudly retired.
In her later years, Cheryl found joy and peace at the lake in Port Austin. There, she embraced her greatest passions—family, cooking, and caring for others. She found happiness in preparing meals that brought everyone together—her pancakes, barbecued ribs, spaghetti, and shrimp cocktail were family favorites. She especially loved holidays, which she filled with warmth, tradition, and her signature generosity.
Cheryl was also known for her creativity and kindness. She lovingly crocheted keepsake blankets for her family, each stitch woven with care and unconditional love. She took great pride in being the caregiver for her brother Ron, a role she carried out with deep compassion and dedication.
Whether she was cleaning fish caught by the kids, spoiling her family with thoughtful gestures, or enjoying her daily online coffee game 'June's Journey', Cheryl lived a life marked by love, selflessness, and joyful simplicity. She leaves behind a legacy of love, cherished memories, and a family who will forever be grateful for her unwavering presence in their lives.
Cheryl was the beloved wife of the late Cary Towne. Loving mother of Brian (Kim) Chalou, Danielle (Dan) Gorney, and the late Ronnie (Jen Bogues) Chalou. Cherished grandmother of Josh (Maggie), Chelsea (Zach), Cory, Gavin, Samantha, and Patrick. Adored great-grandmother of Charlotte, Rowen, and Cory. Dear sister of Ronald Engel, Barbara (Wayne) Yancy, and Ellen Matlock.
