Conrad received his high school diploma at Salesian High School in Detroit. He would go on to complete two years of trade school for automotive pattern making.
The family owned a gas station in Detroit where he learned automotive repairs. That’s where he met Pauline. He always said they met over a can of oil for her car. In 1962 he married Pauline and together they raised two daughters, Karen and Melissa. In October of 1987 Conrad’s beloved wife Pauline of 25 years passed away. Conrad would later meet Judy Kelpin, with whom he was blessed to share over 30 years together.
Conrad worked for Ford Motor Company as a pattern maker for 11 1/2 years, and then moved to GM Truck and Bus where he spent the next 15 years working as a metal model maker for car parts until his retirement.
In his leisure time, Conrad was an avid photographer and enjoyed the outdoors. Conrad’s hobby of photography had won him several competitions for the St. Clair Shores Camera Club. He even started his own side business of photographing weddings in his free time.
Conrad enjoyed the cold weather, unlike most. That’s probably one of the many reasons he was such a hardcore hockey fan. He was a season ticket holder for the Windsor Spitfires for many years. He also enjoyed speed skating himself. When the weather was a little warmer, you could usually find Conrad downtown at the Detroit Boat Races.
Most importantly, Conrad enjoyed spending time with his family and his two precious Bouviers, Harley and Bailey. After meeting his partner Judy, Conrad welcomed her extended family of Kimberly and Adam Kelpin and their children, Kaine, Brandy, and Isabella Kelpin, and Phoebe Musico.
Conrad had a contagious laugh and loved to talk. Parkinson’s may have slowed him down a bit, but it never slowed down his mind. If someone gave him the chance to speak, they could find out just how knowledgeable Conrad really was. Conrad’s love of nature and the outdoors, his wisdom, and his immense love for his family and pets will be remembered and loved by all who knew him.
Conrad was the beloved husband of the late Mary Pauline. Loving father of Karen Toth and Melissa (Eric) Bresinski. Cherished brother of Priscilla (the late Robert) Binkowski. Dear longtime partner of Judy Kelpin. Uncle of Matthew Binkowski, David Binkowski, the late Mary Ellen Filbey, the late David Neubauer, Laura Neubauer, and Joseph Neubauer. He is also survived by sister-in-law Ann Neubauer.
Visitation for Conrad will be held Tuesday, November 10th, from 3-9 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren, Michigan.
He will lie in state on Wednesday from 10:30 am until the time of his Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church, 31555 Hoover Rd, Warren, MI 48093. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations, in Conrad's name, are appreciated to either The Michigan Parkinson's Foundation, the Michael J. Fox Foundation, or the Capuchin Ministries.
