David Fredrick Jakubowski, age 85, died Monday, April 12, 2021 at the Shelby Health & Rehabilitation Center in Shelby Township, Michigan. David was born November 21, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan, son of the late John Jakubowski and the late Theresa (nee: Renusch) Jakubowski.
Dave would meet his future wife Theresse in 1957. Theresse would tell you that she liked him from the start, and was impressed with his height, great personality and sense of humor! His love and respect for his family, however, was what she admired the most. When they were dating, they loved going to the movies and to Big Boy’s afterwards for a Big Boy sandwich and strawberry pie. They loved going roller skating, ice skating, horseback riding and riding the roller coasters at amusements parks. The couple also enjoyed driving to Stoney Creek, having a picnic and renting a canoe to spend time out on the lake.
Dave and Theresse were married on October 21, 1961 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Detroit, Michigan. They would have celebrated their 60 th wedding anniversary this year. Dave "hung the moon" for Theresse providing for a life of love and laughter during any trial or tribulation.
Soon after their marriage, the young couple bought their house in Warren on Los Olas Drive where they raised their three children, Ann Marie, Debbie and Donna. Within their community, they made lifelong friendships and supported the community and neighborhood wherever needed. Over the years, those friends enjoyed day trips, fourth of July parties, Super Bowl parties, Christmas get-togethers, and so many other family functions and gatherings.
Most of Dave’s days throughout his life was centered around food...he worked in the food business for many years, and never officially retired. He was very involved with all the activities at St. Sylvester’s Catholic church, including the Oktoberfest and Lenten fish fry's. Additionally, Dave was a highly active member with the American Polish Century Club & Century Banquet Center in Sterling Heights. Dave enjoyed being a member of the planning committee for the annual summer Polish festival where he made sure each year’s festival was better than the last. He and his wife also volunteered at the Capuchin soup kitchen in Detroit every St. Patrick’s Day.
If you knew Dave, you recognized his greatest passion in life was his wife, his children, and grandchildren. Every conversation with Dave or Theresse included the achievements of their children and grandchildren. Many summers were spent with the entire family “Up North” in Caseville and AuGres, enjoying backyard barbecues or Grosse Pointe City Park picnics, creating lifelong memories for everyone in attendance. Their calendar was full while attending their grandchildren’s school and sporting events. They regularly planned family dinners at the Polish Kitchen in Hamtramck. His grandchildren will remember how grandpa loved facetiming and talking to his grandchildren on the phone. He looked forward to the annual tradition of making homemade kielbasa with his “crew”.
Dave was a great husband, father and Papa, with everyone missing his stories, laughter, jokes and immense love for his family, friends, and his devotion to his Catholic faith.
David was the beloved husband of Theresse Jakubowski, and the dear father of Ann Marie (Mark) Roy, Debra (Thomas) Temrowski, and Donna (Ken) VanJaarsveld. He was also the loving grandfather of Allison (Brandon), Jack, David, Matthew (fiancé Madison), Natalie, and Amanda. Mr. Jakubowski was predeceased by his siblings Richard, and Lucille Jakubowski.
The Jakubowski family will receive friends and guests Friday, 11:00 am at St. Martin dePorres Catholic Church, 31555 Hoover Road in Warren, until the time of his Memorial Mass at 11:30 am. Celebrating the Liturgy will be Reverend Fr. Thomas Slowinski.
