David Schmidt

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Lawrence David Schmidt passed away at home on May 20, 2026. Lawrence (Dave) was born November 11, 1953 in Detroit, Michigan to Margaret (JoAnn) and Hugh Schmidt. He was the third of eight children in the family. He was raised in Warren, and graduated from Warren Woods High School.

Dave was in the grocery business for more than fifty years at Food Giant, Chatham, Great Scott and Kroger Supermarkets. He was an outstanding Produce Merchandiser at both Food Giant and Chatham. Dave was a longtime Night Crew Leader at Kroger. For many years before retirement, Dave drove and serviced a bread route for his dear friend Paul.

Dave enjoyed his large family and the holiday gatherings that brought everyone together. Dave was extremely proud of his brothers Steve and Scott for their military service to the country he loved. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, sister Kathleen, sister-in-law Cathy, and brother Randall. Dave will be dearly missed by his siblings, Steven, Gary (April), Roger, Karen Henmueller (Jim) and Scott (Debbie). Dave was revered by his many nieces and nephews and he loved them dearly. They are James (Darlynn), Jacqueline, Jennifer (Frank), William, Ryan, Lindsay, Laura, Elizabeth (Ken), Eric (Amy), Katie (Derek), Rick (Sarah), Michael (Alivea), Megan (Branden) and Layoun (Rosie).

Dave was a devout fan of the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions. He was rarely without his Detroit Lions leather jacket. Dave was a very independent person, but you could always count on him for a warm conversation and a unique perspective of life. Most of all, we will remember his devotion to his beloved sister Kathy who preceded him in death in 1974.

May he be reunited with his parents, Hugh and JoAnn, siblings, Kathy and Randy, and his sister-in-law, Cathy. May he rest in peace.

Visitation Wednesday, May 27th from 4pm until 8pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr Road, in Warren. Dave will lie instate Thursday, May 28th from 9:30am until time of Funeral Mass at 10am at St. Mary Our Lady Queen of Families Catholic Church 25320 Van Dyke Avenue, Center Line, MI 48015.
