Debra Ann Clarey, age 61,died Saturday, January 19, 2019 at Beaumont Hospital in Troy following a short illness. Debra was born September 21, 1957 in Mt. Clemens to William Clarence Blomme and Patricia Ann (nee Strunk) Blomme.Debra was a wonderful daughter growing up. Yet like many children who find themselves in sticky situations, Debra always knew when something wasn't right. From the time she was a little girl to her budding adult life, she was quick to apologize and often punished herself before her parents would even need to intervene. And that speaks, succinctly, to the wonderfully compassionate and caring woman she was to all. This care was rooted by her incredible faith in God which guided her to seek confirmation at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in East Detroit. The year was 1970, and Debra was a young 13 years old. As the years ensued and her faith grew and evolved, Debra found new and important teachings from the Catholic faith which led her to St. Paul of Tarsus Catholic Church in Clinton Township where she was confirmed in 1996. Debra was an extremely devout Christian and a strong woman who was immensely loyal and protective of her family. Debra was a proud graduate of Cousino High School in Warren,...the Class of 1975. From there she decided to further her education by enrolling at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit where she could hone some of her naturally artistic skills. Following four years of dedication and hard work, Debra received her coveted Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 1979,...which just happened to be a stepping stone to the teaching position she was offered by the college. Debra was a passionate and talented artist and dancer, yet her skills also included such works as stained glass, wreaths, portraits (both painted & drawn), home decor, and various picecs of jewelry,...all original works from her heart and soul. Debra's artistry shined through in everything she did, and was a large part of the most intriguing presentation to the world,...herself. A year later, in 1980, Debra married John Clarey and the two would ultimately welcome three beautiful children into the world; Shaina Lynn, Sean Christian, and Brett William Clarey. Just this past year, Debra was blessed to become a grandmother for the first time to her cherished bundle of joy, Ellie Rose Clarey. For this wonderfully creative individual, art was merely one aspect of her gifts she brought to the world. There was also her care and compassion for humanity as well as evidenced in the 20 plus years Debra spent volunteering at the Crossroads Pregnance Center in Rochester Hills, Michigan. She had an incredible heart when it came to babies and did her part in being their voices for many years. Debra was also one of the familiar faces at the Crittenton Hospital Gift Shop where she loved doing her part in bringing comfort to the many folks who visited the shop. And with her Christian faith leading the way, helping to serve communion to the hospital bound was a ministry she so enjoyed. Loving mother of Shaina (Ferhat) Ansari, Sean (Jessica) Clarey, and Brett Clarey. Cherished daughter of William and Patricia Blomme. Dear sister of Kay Blomme and Pamela Anderson. Beloved grandmother of Ellie. Also survived by her feline friend, Sasha. Visitation for Debra will be held Thursday, January 24th from 5-9 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren. She will lie in state on Friday from 11:30 am until the time of her Funeral Mass at 12:00 pm at St. Paul of Tarsus Catholic Church, 41300 Romeo Plank Road in Clinton Township, Michigan.
