

Donald Mrdjenovic, Jr., age 83 and longtime resident of Warren, Michigan, died Thursday, October 23, 2014 at St. John Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Donald was born September 8, 1931 in Wall, Pennsylvania, son of the late Donald Mrdjenovic and the late Violet (nee: Trbovic) Mrdjenovic.Donald moved to Michigan with his family as a young boy. As a young adult, he was inducted in the United States Marine Corps on February 25, 1952 to serve during the Korean War. Donald served for two years with the Marines attaining the rank of Corporal. He would later return to Detroit following his Honorable Discharge and faithful service to his country.Donald returned to his love of automobiles and mechanics, going to work for a local garage. While working for the garage, he built and raced midget autos for the garage team. With his career path experiencing a bit of a shift, Donald was hired by Michigan Consolidated Gas Company (MichCon), where he worked as their Fleet Mechanic for over 34 years before retiring.When Donald was not working, his family and children were the center of his life. He spent many hours actively volunteering his time with the boys' Webelo Scouts, the Cub Scouts, and finally the Boy Scouts, where he served as scout leader for many years. He took a small group of scouts and later created a Troop of more than 100 members. After his children were older, he took on another leadership role with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Lempke-Blackwell Post 7573 in New Baltimore. Donald served in the role of Post Commander twice, 5th District Commander, State Honor Guard member, Legislative Chairman, and State Convention Commander. He also helped build the Club Room at the VFW Post in New Baltimore.Mr. Mrdjenovic enjoyed his time in nature, and the outdoors with his buddies Deer hunting in Montana. He also cherished his tranquil time at home with his wife where he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his many family members and grandchildren.Donald was the beloved husband, of over 59 years, to Dorothy, and is the dear father of Donald Mrdjenovic III, Daniel (Ginny) Mrdjenovic , Denise (Joseph Wm.) Diz, Dwayne (Michelle) Mrdjenovic, and David (Jennifer) Mrdjenovic. He is the loving grandfather of Janelle, Deanna, Donald IV, Shaun, Ryan, Rose, Joseph, David, Zoe, David, Mary, and also survived by seven great-grandchildren: Katie, Taylor, Lily, Donald V, Emma, Joey, and Jayden. Visitation for Mr. Mrdjenovic will be held on Saturday, October 25th from 5-9pm and Sunday from 2-9pm, with a 7:30pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road). Mr. Mrdjenovic will lie in state on Monday from 10:00am until time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30am at St. Anne Catholic Church in Warren. Celebrating the Funeral Liturgy will be Rev. Fr. Alberto Bondy. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery with full United State Marine Corps military honors. Please share memories of Donald at his memory book.
