Dorothy was born on February 3, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, to her late parents, John and Marie Scourtes. Shortly after celebrating her 17th birthday, Dorothy married the love of her life, Marlin, beginning a beautiful journey that would span 24 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a life rooted in love, family, and devotion until Marlin’s passing in 1979, a loss Dorothy carried with grace and strength for the rest of her life.
A deeply devoted mother, Dorothy took immense pride in her children, Marlin, Marie (David) Lafata, and Ronald. Her heart grew even fuller as she became a proud grandmother to Kaylee (Steven), Jessica, Erica, and Stephanie. She was later blessed with the joy of being a cherished great-grandmother to Alexis (Max), Breanna, Zachary, Valerie, Julianna, Hannah, Jameson, Emma, and ultimately a great-great-grandmother to Blair, a role she embraced with awe and love.
Dorothy was a beloved sister to Elaine Belfour and Anna Burns and was preceded in death by her brothers John Scourtes and George Scourtes. Family meant everything to Dorothy, and she treasured every gathering, conversation, and shared laugh.
Known for her warm spirit and outgoing nature, Dorothy truly loved being around others. She had a passion for shopping and an undeniable gift for socializing, making friends wherever she went. In 2002, she found meaningful purpose and lasting companionship when she joined the Senior Companion Program, where she remained actively involved and formed friendships that became like family to her.
Dorothy will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, her generous heart, and the deep love she held for her family and friends. Her presence brought comfort, laughter, and light, and her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched.
She will be deeply missed and forever lovingly remembered.
