Dorothy Bernice Jeno, age 85 of Warren, died Thursday, August 13, 2015 at the Heartland Rehabilitation Center in Sterling Heights. She was born July 9, 1930 in Detroit, daughter of the late Roy and the late Edna (nee: Opland) Trevarthen. In telling a story about Dorothy, perhaps the most prominent chapter would be the one that includes the man who swept her off her feet over six decades ago, her best friend & the love of her life, John. What began as a simple friendship blossomed into the relationship that, ultimately, led them both to the altar and into each others' arms as husband & wife. It was February 6, 1954 at a church in Detroit that John & Dorothy shared their vows and promised to love, honor & cherish each other,…and that's exactly what they did for 61 years. Together, they built a home, raised three beautiful children, and grew deeper in love with each passing day. For Dorothy, part of that love and maternal care was expressed through her talents in the kitchen and the magic that was often created therein. Like many Mom's and Grandma's, Dorothy had a knack of coming up with some pretty tasty treats,…and nevermore tasty than with her No-Bake Cookies and her incredible cheesecakes. Just like watching an episode of the Golden Girls, sitting down with a slice of Dorothy's cheesecake helped to make sense of a crazy world, and made your taste buds do a somersault! Another chapter that was visited often came around the holidays and the joy that Dorothy always embraced as she shared in its message, its majesty,…and, of course, its merchandising. Yes, there was no greater "Giver of Gifts" than Dorothy as she poured the best parts of her instincts and creativity into each little package. Another way that she gave so unselfishly was witnessed through the support she showed in attending all of her grandchildren's events. From the various sporting venues to the more artsy genres, Dorothy kept quite busy and entertained while enjoying the role of a Cheerleading Grandma. And not merely in the times outside of the house, Dorothy was also a warm & welcomed presence when it came time for playing games and/or coloring with her precious grandchildren,…especially with her newest cherub, great-granddaughter, Mariella. Grandma was always the best & brightest, there was no other in the world like her. Along with the little ones, Dorothy was also quite supportive when it came to her adult daughter's endeavors with the "Warren Concert Band." From childhood to present, she was always proud of daughter Karen's loyalty to the band and her eagerness to keep the music alive. After working a handful of different jobs amidst caring for the needs of her family, Dorothy happily joined her Groom as they strolled through the well-deserved gates of retired living,…and "living" is what they did together. One of their favorite pastimes came in the form of traveling, something they enjoyed via land, sea and air. From the two Alaskan Cruises that she and John embarked upon, to the tropical delights they shared together in Hawaii, getting away and seeing the sights meant so much to Dorothy,…as did that memorable trip to Disney World with her grandchildren. That takes care of the "sea" and "air" aspects,…the "land" excursions came with an entirely different twist. Quite often it meant climbing aboard a bus that was headed for the casino, their favorite being the casino in Kewadin, Michigan. The bus trips were always a hoot, especially when shared with her cousin, Lois and her sister-in-law, Helen. The Three Amigos surely knew how to have a good time as they gave those one-armed bandits the exercise of their lives. Dorothy was noted for her love of animals,…her unquenchable thirst for the perfect Long Island Iced Tea,…and her hunger for the edible delights found at her favorite eateries, Firenze's and White Castle. For a little personal fun and entertainment, she'd often grab her knitting needles or one of her puzzle books and could easily be engrossed for quite some time. Yet of all the traits that will keep Dorothy's memory alive, it has to be what a "Fashionista" she was with her attire and accessories. From the many blouses, purses, shoes and earrings that she adorned herself with, she was always making her own unique fashion statement and looking like the Belle of the Ball.A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of love that will be felt forever and embraced with each reflection shared. She touched a multitude of hearts and lives along the path of her life and left an imprint on every soul throughout her journey. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally. Dorothy was the beloved wife of John. Dearest mother of Michael (Mary) Jeno, Karen (Eric) Hartman, and Sharon (Eric) Pomber. Loving grandmother of Alyse (Robert) Campion, Eric Pomber, Caitlin Jeno, and great-grandmother of Mariella Campion. Sister of Arline Schindler, and aunt to several loving nieces and nephews. Visitation for Dorothy will be held on Sunday, August 16th from 3-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Road) in Warren.
