Dorothy Ethel Mikiel, age 92 of Warren, died Monday, August 19, 2013 at Autumn Woods Health Care Facility in Warren, Michigan. She was born June 6, 1921 in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, daughter of the late Joseph and the late Helen Olschefsky. Married in 1943 to the love of her life, John, Dorothy and he enjoyed a wonderful marriage for nearly 60 years. Dorothy was a loving wife and mother to both John and their son, Vince. Her fondest memories were those spent in the company of family and friends. In her earlier years, Dorothy owned a bridal shop on Jefferson Avenue. In her next entrepreneurial move, she chose an entirely different direction by becoming the owner & proprietor of the Brunswick Flower Shop which was located on 2nd Avenue in the New Center Area of Detroit. Many famous celebrities crossed paths with her while at the flower shop including such notables as Melvin from the Temptations, Ann Miller, Eli Wallach, Karl Haas (from WJR Radio), as well as several other entertainment personalities. Dorothy was extremely extroverted and would strike up a conversation with anyone that she met. She was truly the consummate "People Person."In her spare time, Dorothy truly enjoyed dancing. Some of her favorite dances included line dancing, the polka, and the fox trot. But she really wasn't picky as, pretty much, any type of dancing met with her satisfaction and enjoyment. All that mattered is that she was in the arms of her beloved "tripping the light fantastic!" Together, they could cut-a-rug with the best of them,...and often stole the show in the process. She was also a proud member of the Warren Senior Citizen Singing Group. Dorothy was also quite fond of traveling and was blessed to have ventured all over the globe. Some of her most treasured memories included trips to Spain, Poland, England, Greece, Turkey, and Italy,...especially to the city of romance, Rome!. Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late John, and the loving mother of Vincent (Barbara) Mikiel. She was the proud grandmother of Suzan E. Mikiel-Kennedy, Erik J. Mikiel, and Thomas T. Mikiel. Dorothy's Inurnment will take place at Mt. Olivet Cemetery Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 11:00am. Please share memories of Dorothy at her memory book.
