

Dorothy Jean Opalewski, age 82 of Warren, died Friday, December 26, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born October 29, 1932 in Detroit, Michigan, daughter of the late Frank Blair and the late Loretta (nee: Gies) Blair.Dorothy was raised in Highland Park and graduated from St. Benedict Catholic High School. She later married the love of her life, John Opalewski, and the young couple eventually settled in Warren, Michigan where they would raise seven children.Mrs. Opalewski was a devout Catholic and longtime member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church where she served as a Catechism instructor, along with serving as a Eucharistic Minister, too. She continued to be faithful to St. Faustina Catholic Church, as well as delivering Holy Communion to her fellow seniors at the Abbey Nursing Home in Warren. She truly exemplified the teachings of Christ and prayed the Rosary religiously.Throughout her life, Dorothy stayed very busy raising her children and later doting on her grandchildren. She loved her time spent outdoors and, while her husband was alive, cherished her time on the boat and taking it out on the lake. She loved to swim and dance, and taught all her children how to square dance. Dorothy always traveled by way of her bicycle when the weather permitted... the bicycle took her to many local places including the church and nursing homes.Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late John Opalewski, and is the dear mother of Daniel (Phoung), Diane (Leon) Verschueren, Mary Hellenberg, Linda (John) Novinski, Kathleen (James) Burrett, Thomas Opalewski, and the late James Opalewski. Mother in-law of Diane Opalewski, and sister of Robert (Marie) Blair. For over 9 years, she was the loving companion of George Spix. Dorothy is also survived by her 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Visitation for Mrs. Opalewski will be held on Monday from 3-9 pm, with an evening Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Rd. at Common, (12 1/2 Mile) in Warren. Mrs. Opalewski will lie in state on Tuesday from 10:00am until time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30am at St. Faustina Catholic Church (formerly St. Edmund) in Warren.
